Comic Artist Spotlight: UrbanGerbilsDan Bowden has been on DA for over 10 years making UrbanGerbils; a comic strip about the daily lives of two gerbils Russ and Nutty. If you haven’t read it yet, crawl out from under that rock and start laughing! The strip’s premise is easy enough to explain, and provides hours of hilarious entertainment. It reminds me of Pinky and the Brain with a simple art style that you might find in the Sunday Funnies. So what is it about, Dan? He explains it well on the comic’s cover: “The strip is basically about two Pet Gerbils, opposite in character but equally crazy, trapped together in a small environment. Nutty is the dumb overweight one happy with his rather minimal existence, escaping only via his daydreams. Russ considers himself the clever one and is obsessed with the need to escape, he is slowly being driven more and more insane by Nutty.”Thanks www.deviantart.com/sjperry
So how did it all begin? As a fan I figured Dan must have been drawing since he was young, and I was correct. “I
Okay, so at first I think I was in the same frame of mind as a LOT of other users on here. I was a bit panicked at the thought that the main place to show my art was changing so drastically, and let's face it, the early version of Eclipse did nothing to stave off that fear. In fact it just added to it. Now, several months on and billions of updates later, I think they're getting there. I have been switched over to Eclipse for a few days now, just to see if it works for me, and to be honest, after a while of getting used to the new format, I'm actually liking it! Sorry if that's not a popular opinion, but everyone has their own individual thoughts on things, and this is just mine. I like the way it presents my work in a relatively simple and uncluttered way.
I like the fact that you can add sections quite easily and move them up or down to suit your preference. I like black! It's my favourite colour.
The thing that made me realise that I genuinely do like Eclipse was when I switched back to the old DA format and it all seemed a bit dull and might I dare say 'outdated' in appearance.
Yeah, I know I'm not going to be popular by saying that, but nobody reads my journals anyway, so I think I'm safe. (Famous last words!)
Anyway, to anyone worried about the change over( whenever that happens) all I can say is, don't worry too much. It's like anything new, once you get used to it, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.
